Our Plan to Stand with Saskatchewan

Balanced Budgets

Balanced Budgets

Balanced Budgets

Our plan to stand with Saskatchewan starts with balanced budgets and a commitment to uphold Brad Wall's plan to balance the budget by 2019. My team is committed to this target to ensure we do not unload the spending of government on future generations, and a priority must be placed on not shocking the economy or valuable public services in Health, Social Services, and Education.

Reinstating the PST Exemption on Crop, Life, and Health Insurance

Reinstating the PST Exemption on Crop, Life, and Health Insurance

As the next leader of the Saskatchewan Party, I will stop the insurance tax on crop, life, accident and health insurance.

The reinstatement of this exemption will be applied retroactively to August 1, 2017.

I'm committed to doing this to help our families and small businesses save money, so they can invest in themselves and help our province grow.

My plan received an A+ rating from the "Stop the Insurance Tax" campaign, the top mark for any candidate in the leadership race.

The cost will be fully recovered through a 5% workforce reduction in Executive Government and Crown corporations, through retirement and attrition.

Protecting Saskatchewan's Interests

Fighting a Federally Imposed Carbon Tax

Fighting a Federally Imposed Carbon Tax

Brad Wall chose me as Environment Minister to fight the carbon tax — as next leader of the Saskatchewan Party, I'll keep fighting.

We must stand firm, to ensure we protect the competitiveness of our industry, of our energy industry, of our agricultural industry, our mining industry, our manufacturing industry, and for every single person who will pay more because of a carbon tax.

Under my leadership, there will be no carbon tax ever in Saskatchewan. We will make investments to lower emissions, but never by increasing taxes.

Bringing Saskatchewan's Exports to the World

Bringing Saskatchewan's Exports to the World

Saskatchewan’s exports feed and fuel the world. Now is the time to invest in strategic efforts to grow and diversify export markets for Saskatchewan companies and producers. This will create new private sector jobs while expanding the revenue streams that fund public services that the people of Saskatchewan rely on.

The first step of this policy would see the establishment of a Ministry of International Trade and Exports, which would replace the Ministry of Economy. The new Minister responsible for International Trade and Exports will be mandated with establishing Saskatchewan’s presence in the countries that account for the largest share of Saskatchewan exports, while maintaining Saskatchewan’s relationships with neighbouring jurisdictions in the United States.

Implementation of the new policy on international trade and exports will begin immediately after the Saskatchewan Party leadership race.

Strengthening Saskatchewan's Communities and Families

Education

Education

Education must be a top priority for the next Premier. That's why I announced my plan to commit an additional $30 million to education funding.

My plan will add 400 Educational Assistants and other educational professionals to our children's classrooms. I know that our teachers do an incredible job helping our students learn and grow — this plan will give teachers and students the support they need in the classroom.

This commitment is a significant investment in our children's future. We want our kids to grow up to live and work here at home in Saskatchewan — so we must give them every opportunity to succeed and be able to do so.

I also know that the way to support our children and our growing province is not by closing schools like the NDP did — that's why I announced that I will issue a moratorium on school closures.

Opportunities in Saskatchewan

Opportunities in Saskatchewan

My plan to keep Saskatchewan Growing will continue the unprecedented growth Saskatchewan has experienced over the last decade. Under this plan, Saskatchewan would target a total population of 1.5 million people by the year 2030.

By announcing a commitment to continue this growth, my team is sending a clear message: our children, and our children's children, will be able to pursue opportunities here at home in Saskatchewan

Growth provides opportunities for entrepreneurs to expand their businesses, creating new jobs to provide services to new residents. Growth builds and strengthens connections export markets where our newcomers may originally be from. Above all, growth gives our young people a reason to stay here, start a career or start their own business, and to start their own family

Landfill Review

Landfill Review

We are committed to a fulsome review of waste management policies in the province, specifically landfills in rural communities.

We will expand the mandate and responsibilities of the Landfill Advisory Committee, made up of SUMA, SARM and other municipal representatives, and tasking them with undertaking a detailed review that will result in better solutions for waste management in Saskatchewan communities.

During this review enforcement action on landfills will be put on hold, except in circumstances where the public health may be at immediate risk.
