SCOTT MOE COMMITS TO $30 MILLION IN ADDITIONAL EDUCATION FUNDING, MORE STUDENT SUPPORTS IN CLASSROOMS

Scott Moe, candidate for leader of the Saskatchewan Party, has announced his policy committing to further classroom supports in Saskatchewan’s education system. Moe's policy proposes a $30 million increase to the Education system to add 400 Educational Assistants and other education professionals to our children’s classrooms. This investment will be directed to the “Supports for Learning” in K-12 classrooms across the province.

“Properly resourcing supports in our classrooms will ensure that our children receive the highest quality education possible,” said Moe. “I have heard from educators and parents that these supports need to be people in the classroom focused on students in the primary grades.This will ensure that all children are provided with every opportunity to succeed from the very first day they attend our schools.”

The announcement would restore the $22 million funding reduction previously made in the 2017/18 provincial budget and adds an additional $8 million to provide further support.

"Our teachers do an incredible job helping our students learn and grow into the future leaders of Saskatchewan," continued Moe. "We know that supporting our students in their first few years of school ensures they are ready to learn in future years.

POLICY OUTLINES MORATORIUM ON SCHOOL CLOSURES

Moe also announced that under his leadership, Saskatchewan would see a moratorium on school closures.

"As our communities grow we need to ensure that our children have access to education facilities and that our classrooms are properly resourced for their success,” Moe added. “I previously announced my plan to grow Saskatchewan's population to 1.5 million people by 2030. The way to support this growth is not by closing schools like the NDP, but by ensuring that every student has access to a school in their community, wherever they live in Saskatchewan."
